So I work as an architectural engineer, and lately somebody asked me why I hate Five Pebbles so much, and I had let go of so much rage I should have been a Saint.
-
In honor of the fact I did not bite Anyone’s head off, I am dumping it on all of my followers today so buckle up guys, here we go: a List of Why Five Pebbles is an Apostatic Monstrosity That Should Never Have Been Built, A THREAD: (1/?)
-
FIRST OFF. Location. Dear gods, location.
Major disclaimer: I do not live in the Citadel. I live in the suburbs NEAR the Citadel, because the Citadel is [2]ing expensive. I do not have a vulture in this Sacred Race. (2/?)
-
When most people complain about 5P’s location, they’re complaining about him being directly over the Citadel, boo hoo they’re being Overshadowed and their nice views are gone. (3?)
-
Personally, I couldn’t give a vulture’s dungpile. (4/?)
-
Overshadowing is a common trick to reduce rainfall impact on established urban areas, we do it all the time. My beef is because of the OTHER location issue. (5/?)
-
The original reason that 5P was built was because the iterator Looks to the Moon up in Waterfront was starting to break down. She’s an old 200’s model, this came as a surprise to literally no one. (6/?)
-
So the Lunar Council commissioned an ‘auxiliary unit’ to help keep things running during her repair. That’s all well and good. We build those all the time! (7/?)
-
But then someone got the brilliant idea: with all the rain from LTTM, we have just enough water in this reservoir sustain a WHOLE SECOND ITERATOR! So why not build one and move our excess population over THERE instead? We’re geniuses! (8/?)
-
Never mind that reservoir levels plummet in summer, or that the combined output of two iterators in a single flood zone would be an ecological nightmare and force district-wide rezoning! Never mind that literally nobody wanted a new iterator in this area! (9/?)
-
What Could Possibly Go Wrong! (10/?)
-
On top of that, the councilfolk who wanted 5P built wanted him to be a CITY city. All new infrastructure, all new housing, all new shiny everything to support the runoff population being offloaded from Luna. (11/?)
-
They insisted that it would be more Cost-Effective to build a new, up-to-code structure from scratch than to keep upgrading LTTM’s antiquated systems to be livable until GA, or taking the time to overhaul her. (12/?)
-
(Yes, even though we’ve done that before with other 200’s style iterators! They did it with Glimmer of Stars out in Nine Lakes! But nooo, that would have been Expensive, and the city people might have had to move down here with us plebs for a while to wait.) (13/?)
-
The architects initially weren’t even approved to do it. The coalition of Houses that wanted him had to lobby to change the zoning laws here to allow it. (14/?)
-
They literally had to take waterline measurements and “prove” that 5P’s hypothetical water consumption would not exceed the safety margin during summer water levels before the proposition could move forward. (15/?)
-
In the end, they had to agree to give LTTM an extra set of low-waterline pumps to make sure she still had access if the levels got too low. Last I heard, it’s planned to start in 1580, which is good as never with 5P already built. (16/?)
-
This is basically a disaster waiting to happen. All it takes is a few cycles of excess water consumption at the wrong time of year, and the reservoir is good as drained. Even a few cycles without water is enough to induce serious malfunctions (17/?)
-
including slag buildup, overheating, and structural instability. But it’s not likely enough to happen for the council to care, and obviously that’s all that matters to these bastards. (18/?)

👤 startlingerrata-deactivated1533566
OP is correct, actually, but as usual you all are a bunch of wool-deer. Typical Tumbling Stones. The water from iterators is actually clean and sterile by default, but they put chemicals in it during cloud seeding to make it undrinkable for the masses. It’s a huge cover-up between multiple councils of the higher levels, I’ve written more about it on my blog here.

THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTINGGGG
@is-the-lizard-video-cute-deactivated1534795
👤 is-the-lizard-video-cute-deactivated1534795
Rating: not cute
The lesser verdant lizard is not play-fighting (note the crest luminosity and repeated threat poses) and is most likely acting on territorial urges toward the red lizard (I’m guessing a scarlet-backed hunter, based on the spine banding.) The red is remarkably good-tempered in tolerating it here, but it is probably only ignoring the green because it does not pose a significant threat. If the red lizard at any point decided it was done screwing around and decided to retaliate, that green would be in serious danger.
These are not animals that should be kept together in close proximity. Verdants are especially territorial and will readily pick fights with lizards multiple times their size, and scarlet hunters are venomous and incredibly deadly when motivated.
OP verdants are literally immune to scarlet lizard venom. shes fine
👤 is-the-lizard-video-cute-deactivated1534795
That doesn’t change the fact that the scarlet hunter could change its mind about tolerating the other lizard and kill it at any point in this interaction. This is not safe or appropriate animal interaction, and I assure you a scarlet-backed hunter lizard can, in fact, decide to snap down on something in its jaws and not let go much faster than any person can intervene. (Feel free to ask me how I know! Hint: it’s also why I have a metal foot now.)
the hunter literally cant get it though. lesser verdants are immune
🟠 orange-nesting-sphere Follow
I…. being immune to venom doesn’t make you immune to being bitten? What kind of logic is this?
theyre immune though
🟠 orange-nesting-sphere Follow
To the venom. Not to having their necks snapped.
theyre immune. red lizards literally cant kills greens its scientific fact
🟠 orange-nesting-sphere Follow
That’s not how immunity works.
it literally is. look it up reds cant kill green lizards
🟠 orange-nesting-sphere Follow
It literally does not. Here is an article debunking that particular myth, and a few more if you’d like further information about where this misconception came from.
Or if you’d like more direct evidence, here’s a video (animal death warning) of a scarlet hunter lizard killing a feral verdant in the wild.
that video is fake
🟠 orange-nesting-sphere Follow
It’s really not. I don’t like having to link to videos of actual animals being hurt, but I really don’t know how else to get through to you that Scarlet-Backed Hunter Lizards Can, In Fact, Kill Lesser Verdants.
they cant though. greens are immune

articulated-centi replied: op is literally an ecolo-ativist who thinks we should dismantle iterators in favor of living humble surface lives like the ancients. stop recirculating their takes
no, i am an ecolo-restorativist. i believe we should repair our environment and treat it well and justly, and that iterators are an aspect of that damage that we as a society must reckon with. i do believe that in an ideal world all iterators would be dismantled to properly restore the ecosystems to their natural equilibrium, but i also understand that is unrealistic for our current state of things, and that many of our ecosystems have already begun their own adaptations to their modified climates and would be potentially damaged worse by a poorly planned reversal than by continuing to support the stability of the environments that currently exist.
more importantly, how does this detract from my point that our treatment of scavs is unsconsciable in light of their functional near-sapience? how do my political views on iterators make the horrific conditions we keep these creatures in any less real?
stop looking for excuses not to listen. if you don’t want to hear what i have to say, then block me and move on.
